Have Control with DIY Hydroponics

When you choose diy hydroponics, you will have complete control over the size and expansion abilities of your garden. You can experiment and improve your grow system until you get the best system for your needs. Using a diy hydroponics grow system will also save you money and give you the freedom to start new plants whenever you are ready to do so. With a diy hydroponics system, you will be able to enlarge your growing system whenever you need to do so. All you need are the building supplies and you can begin your diy hydroponics garden.

Support for Your Crops

Although there are not too many drawbacks to growing plants using diy hydroponics, you must be prepared to create a trellis system for plants that have large fruits and a support system for root crops. Your support system must be strong with enough room for the crops to be supported without cramping the fruit.

Garden Size Determines Building Supplies

Depending on how small your crop is, you can even create a garden from cups or plastic pop bottles. You can put that tiny sunny spot on your balcony to work with a little hydroponic vegetable garden. For a small hydroponic garden, you can start with just the seeds, nutrient solution, a basin, a mixture of vermiculite and perlite and a couple of 2L pop bottles.

Another example of the supplies needed for another small diy hydroponic setup are plastic storage bins with holes cut in them to hold the pots, a submersible water pump or aquarium pump, tubing, air pump, air stone and dripper line. You can build and customize your diy hydroponics system as small or as large and complex as you want.

Your Plants need Light

Your plants will need light, from either the sun or a lighting system and you will need a sunny or well-lit area for most of your crops and flowers. If you are not using lights, choose a spot with the most sunlight and plan that as the garden area. If you do not have a sunny spot, you can bring your crops indoors and use a special lighting system. You can also set up your hydroponics garden in a greenhouse.

You can may or may not need a timer. If you need a timer, you can get a house timer or a light timer at most hardware stores. If you do not need a timer, it is easy enough to remember the times that your plants need maintenance and you can use a plant-feeding chart for a regular maintenance schedule.

Keep Extra Building Supplies Handy

Keep building supplies on hand, for whenever a part fails, you will need to be ready to fix your system before any plants are affected. By keeping an extra water or air pump handy, you will save yourself precious time if one of these items breaks down. You will also save yourself a search for empty pop bottles or tubing if you keep building supplies handy.

Once you have set up your diy hydroponics system, you will have a self-watering and self-feeding grow system for your plant needs. You will be especially proud of your crops as you harvest them because you have made it possible by diy hydroponics.

There is always room to experiment and of course results can vary and sometimes fall short of expectations. Such experiments help in teaching the children what is to be fed to plants rather than teach them what the medium in which plants grow is. When you choose diy hydroponics, you will have complete control over the size and expansion abilities of your garden. And, if the plants are being grown indoors, it is a common practice to fail to have enough lighting because of more area that may be covered to grow as many plants as possible.
