If you want to grow plants, but cant find an area to grow outside, indoor hydroponics may be for you. There are many occasions where growing indoors may not be possible, such as when the climates too cold, its not sunny enough, or anything else that prevents plants from growing in normal outside conditions. Indoor hydroponics requires a little more knowledge as far as plant physiology is concerned, but it can be easy and fun once you know how. First youll need to pick up the materials for your indoor hydroponics venture. Hydroponics doesnt use soil to grow plants. The nutrients are dissolved in water and are absorbed into the roots directly, thus eliminating the need for soil. Therefore, there are some materials that are required, but you can easily pick these up at any hydroponics store. Next, youll need a space to grow your plants in, and then comes the fun part.

Indoor hydroponics is a fun hobby and you can grow pretty much any plant youd like to grow. You also have the freedom of choosing one of the many forms of hydroponics. For instance, some forms just use water thats rich in nutrients. Some forms of hydroponics use a medium, such as gravel or sand, though the outcome is the same. You need to pick up some containers to hold your plants in when you want to try indoor hydroponics. These containers should be large enough to hold your plants, but should also block out light, as you dont want algae growing in the containers along with your plants.
You need to make sure your plants receive oxygen. Sometimes, people who are growing plants using indoor hydroponics will use a low level of solution so that the upper part of the roots can get more oxygen, while others use a pump to get oxygen to their plants. Any sort of pump will do, though many choose to use a pump from a fish tank. For other variations on types of indoor hydroponics, such as ways to get air to the plants, ask your local hydroponics dealer.
Lighting is very important when it comes to indoor hydroponics. When you plant indoors, you dont have the benefit of sunlight, and the sun coming through the windows is rarely efficient enough to sustain plant life. Therefore, you may need to buy lights. The lights that are typical of indoor hydroponics are Metal Halide, High Pressure Sodium, and fluorescent lights. These lights mimic the sunlight allowing your plants to grow without needing to be outside.
Your Space
Now that you have your indoor hydroponics setup, youll need to find a place to grow your plants. Some people grow them in a fish tank in the corner of their room, while others may choose the bathroom or a closet. Just make sure you check on your plants often, to make sure they are getting the proper nutrients and oxygen, and then watch your plants grow to fruition. |
